The Only Hope 1x1

Anya dug out a box and opened it. Inside were three more bottles. "I found more." She took out one of the bottles and looked it over. The moon on the necklace started to glow. "What the?!"

Dante walked over to her. "What is it?" He asked, looking at the bottles.

"The necklace I found is pulsing and lighting up." Anya said a little freaked out by it. Things just don't come to life like that." She said and looked at the bottle before opening the lid of the bottle. "Should I drink it?" She said absentmindedly thinking.

"W-Wait, doesn't it say the same thing as mine?" Dante asked her, his tone showing how concerned he was.

"Yeah it does, but it can't be anything too bad can it? If it kills me at least I'm dying being me. Hmm, someone put it here for a reason. If an object reacts to it I think it had a purpose." She said looking over it carefully and then sniffed it.

Dante sighed. "Yeah, you're probably right." He said, unscrewing the cap. "On the count of three?" He asked her.

Anya nodded determinded. "Right, one." She started looking at the bottle in her hand. The liquid smelled bloody awful but she wouldn't let that stop her.

"Two..." Dante said, putting the bottle just in front of his mouth. He was mildly distressed about this, but he wasn't going to back down.

"Three!" Anya said and then quickly downed the bottle of liquid cringing when she finished it. "That tastes like satans blood!" She said sticking out her tounge at the gross bitter taste.

Dante finished his quickly as well. "Ugh. Who would drink something like this?" He asked.

"Crazy people, crazy people is the answer to your question." She replied and looked at the other bottles. She put the lid on the box and put the box in her bag. "May as well sell them. In 24 hours if we're not dead then we know it's safe."

Dante smirked. "That's reassuring. But, my God I wish I had something to get this taste out of my mouth."

Anya got her knife out of her bag and took the apple out of her bag cutting it in half. She held out half to him. "Tada!" She said in a singing voice smirking.

Dante looked at the half of the apple in surprise. He took his half in his hand and looked it over. "This is incredible.. How did you...?"

Anya looked at him with a smirk. "I didn`t steal it, well sorta. I payed half price for it and then ran off with it. He tried running after me but I escaped on to the rooftops." She explained and took a bit out of hers and hmmed in pleasure as she tasted the sweet juice of the apple.

Dante took a bite out of his half. He smiled, lightly. "Its been a while since I didn't eat food rations."

Anya nodded with a smile. "Same here, the orphanage doesn`t exactly have the money for anything but food rations." She commented and looked at the sky that was now starting to get dark. "After we finish the apple we should head back. We can`t have the Peacekeepers catching us after curfew."

Dante nodded. "Wouldn't be good to go to disappear now.." He said, sighing. "I won't be able to stay at the orphanage for much longer. They're saying I'm almost old enough that they can't keep me."

"How about this, when you turn 18 adopt me." Anya said seriously. "You`ll be legal too."

Dante frowned. "Won't that make you my daughter though?" He asked her.

"Only for a year, after that that papers can be canceled." Anya replied. "It would mean that we can stay together though and that we can`t be separated." She said and finished the apple with a frown.

Dante nodded. "Yeah, I know. I was just messing with you. I just don't know when they're going to kick me out. Nobody knows my official birthday, remember?" He asked, putting emphasis on the when.

"That is true, I hope it`s not soon. I don`t think I can handle being in that place by myself." She said and frowned not liking the idea.

Dante nodded and finished his half. "Ready to head back?" He asked, shouldering his pack.

Anya nodded and stood up. "Yeah," she said and had the apple seeds in her hand. "I`ll plant these when we get back.
